| The Law
Many disabled people face barriers and discrimination in their everyday lives and are unable to access services, social activities and employment on equal terms with their non-disabled counterparts.
Since 1995 it is unlawful to discriminate against disabled people. In particular, disabled people have rights in law to access employment, training, goods, services and facilities. The Disability Rights Commission (DRC) is an independent body established in April 2000 by Act of Parliament to stop discrimination and promote equality of opportunity for disabled people.
Some Facts
The Family Resources Survey found that there are almost ten million disabled people in the UK with a combined spending power in the region of eighty billion pounds per annum. Furthermore there are millions of other individuals that are affected by sensory, physical and/or cognitive impairments, including those resulting from the ageing process.
If disabled people face barriers in accessing your services they may go elsewhere and you could miss out on some of their spending power!!!!
